Weight Loss and Healthy Eating with Hypnotherapy – The Hypno Band System
I have to admit, that once upon a time I was that occasional binge drinker and serial yo-yo dieter, going from one faddy diet to the next. However since training as a psychotherapist/hypnotherapist, I find it strange to reflect that human beings ( and their pets) are the only species that GO on diets. All other species HAVE diets, that is healthy eating for their circumstances.
At Hepburn Hypnotherapist, we advocate healthy eating; a sustainable on going, life long, sustainable healthy eating plan. Healthy eating, combined with good mental and emotional health will result in and maintain a healthy weight.
Hypnotherapists for many years have used varying techniques to help clients with their weight loss problems. Some of these techniques have been effective in securing small amounts of weight loss over a short period of time. The big problem has always been to assist clients who wish to lose large amounts of weight and to keep it off. Unless a client is truly committed to changing their eating behaviours and other aspects of their lifestyle, they are unlikely to achieve their goals. At Hepburn Hypnotherapy, healthy eating and a healthy life style, physical and emotional, is encouraged as an end in itself which will lead to a healthy weight.
In order to maximise results, the Hypno-Band system has been devised to break new ground. The principle of hypnotic gastric band surgery is not new and has indeed been in use for sometime. However the Hypno Band system, devised by Newwave Hypnotherapy (a practice based in Exeter), is an integrated system which utilises current weight loss theory and a different approach to virtual gastric band surgery. The system has been extensively researched and trials carried out with clients.
People are overweight for a variety of reasons. The main reasons are overeating and lack of exercise although often there are other psychological and physiological reasons. Psychological reasons often tend stem from emotional discomfort as many people overeat to alleviate stress and or boredom or to somehow find comfort or love. Bad diet , with an over reliance on fast food, processed food which contain unhealthy amounts of sugar and salt can lead to food cravings and over eating. It is a simple fact though, that if people ate less and followed healthier diets and exercised more, they would lose weight.
My own experience as serial yo-yo dieter, who for a while enjoyed binge drinking and binge eating and the obligatory fish supper an or kebab afterwards. However , I found it easy to lose weight in those days, following many a faddy diet. I always received lots of positive attention in doing so. Unconsciously ( due to self esteem issues) I would put the weight back on fairly quickly and once again was the centre of attention. However, since having trained in psychotherapy/ hypnotherapy, and working with weight loss clients I have been able to lose weight permanently. This despite suffering a mild stroke at the age of sixty one which left me for a year or so, fatigued and unable to exercise properly and prone to cravings. Using self hypnosis I was able to ( albeit slowly) lose my weight gain
At Hepburn Hypnotherapy we use the HypnoBand system which gives clients the tools take control of and change their eating habits and live a happier and healthier lifestyle. Therefore the HypnoBand system tries to find the root cause of excessive eating habits and combines behaviour modifying techniques with the hypnotic gastric band procedures.
How does it work?
The HypnoBand system is a combination of suggestion, visualisation and cognitive behavioural therapy techniques which combine to convince the client that they have undergone gastric band surgery, thus enabling them to eat smaller amounts and have their hunger satisfied earlier.
What Are The Steps Involved?
In session one
an assessment is carried out to ascertain the client’s suitability for the HypnoBand system and to look at their eating and exercise habits. The system is then explained and a medical history is taken and the reasons for overeating are explored. The therapists then moves on to changing the eating habits of the client by incorporating new thoughts and perspectives into the first hypnosis session. A reinforcing cd is provided to the client to be listened to in between sessions.
In session two
, the client is taken through a reinforcement session from session one and a detailed virtual consultation for the surgical procedure is carried out in hypnosis with the surgeon. The client is asked to respond to the exact type of question that would be asked by a surgeon and anaesthetist and is prepared for the next appointment which is the “actual virtual” surgery procedure.
In the third session
the client is taken through the procedure from arriving at the hospital, getting their pre-med to recovery.
is a further reinforcement session and the band is adjusted, either tightened or loosened. This is done by describing, with the client in hypnosis, the simple procedure which is carried out after an actual operation has taken place, thereby reinforcing in the client’s unconscious mind that an operation has taken place thus allowing them to eat less food yet still be satisfied.
